The program for the Shop House consists of two commercial spaces, three apartment units and two shared communal spaces for the residents. One unit connects to the main commercial space. My goal was to create a unique space for each unit, but still maintaining a similar spatial logic and composition. I aimed to design the units with a very open ended interpretation of spaces. I wanted to make sure that each space has multiple uses and could accommodate the variety of needs that ranges from each potential user. One key feature that I incorporated within each unit and the main commercial space were acrylic built in bookshelves. I designed the shelves with the intention of them being able to act as a divider but they are lifted off the ground to ensure a continuous grand plane and sense of transparency.
